Diabetes and Nutrition
Type 2 diabetes develops when our cells become less sensitive to insulin. When this happens our bodies need more insulin to move blood sugar into the cells. Our pancreases struggle to provide this extra insulin and, eventually, become less efficient at producing insulin. When this happens our blood sugar levels spike and we have type 2 diabetes.

Is there anything we can do to restore our cells sensitivity to insulin? Yes. There are several natural nutrients that actually increase our cells sensitivity to insulin. The mineral cromium is one, especially in the cromium picolinate form. Another is the anti-oxidant Alpha Lipoic Acid. It's a very potent anti-oxidant that is both water soluble and oil soluble.  The spice cinnamon also aids insulin utilization.

These are just a few of the natural substances that help. If you are already diabetic and use any of them be sure to let your doctor know so he can monitor your blood sugar levels and adjust your medication/insulin dosage. If you have not yet developed diabetes, using one or more of these can help keep you from developing diabetes.
